Assistant Professor in International Social and Public Policy 2026

About the Role:

The Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Assistant Professor in International Social and Public Policy. We are looking for candidates with a strong research and teaching focus on international social, public policy, or criminology/criminal justice. This is an exciting career-track opportunity to join a world-leading, multi-disciplinary department and contribute to cutting-edge research and high-quality teaching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research & Publication: Conduct outstanding, world-leading research and produce high-quality publications in top-tier journals to build an international academic reputation.

  • Teaching & Mentoring: Design and deliver inspiring teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc) students in International Social and Public Policy, and Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy.

  • Supervision: Act as a secondary supervisor to PhD students and provide excellent pastoral care and guidance to all students.

  • Departmental Contribution: Actively participate in departmental activities, workshops, and collaborative research initiatives.

  • Strategy: Develop a clear and viable strategy for future research and grant applications.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: A completed PhD (or be close to obtaining one) in international social policy, public policy, criminology, or a closely related social science discipline by the start date.

  • Research Excellence: A track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications or high potential to publish with leading publishers.

  • Teaching Ability: Proven ability or strong potential to teach high-quality courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students and academic peers.
